December Mission: Holiday Hope & Second Chances
For our December mission, Letters with Love delivered 137 Christmas and holiday cards to Crossroads Juvenile Center in Brownsville, Brooklyn, a secure juvenile rehabilitation facility serving youth awaiting court decisions. While this mission was originally planned for incarcerated individuals, we redirected the cards to ensure they reached young people who needed encouragement most during the holiday season.
Each card was filled with messages of hope, motivation, and belief in new beginnings. The holidays can be especially difficult for youth in secure facilities, often marked by isolation, uncertainty, and distance from family. Our goal was simple but meaningful: to remind these young people that they are not forgotten and that their future is still full of possibility.
Crossroads Juvenile Center serves teens and young adults who are navigating pivotal moments in their lives. By delivering these cards, we hoped to offer more than seasonal cheer. We aimed to plant seeds of confidence, self worth, and the idea that second chances are real and attainable.
This mission reflects a core belief of Letters with Love. Joy and compassion should reach every corner of our communities, especially the places that are often overlooked. December’s mission was about meeting young people where they are and choosing to lead with empathy, even in the most challenging environments.
As we close out the year, we are grateful to everyone who wrote a card, supported this mission, and helped spread kindness during the holiday season. Together, we ended the year by sharing hope, one letter at a time.
