Letters with Love’s April Mission: Spring-Themed Cards for Hospitalized Children
Our April 2025 mission was all about hope, healing, and the joy of spring. For this special initiative, Letters with Love set out to brighten the days of children in hospitals with handwritten, spring-themed cards—and thanks to our amazing community, the mission was a beautiful success.
This mission was dedicated to children facing health challenges, many of whom spend their days in hospital rooms away from school, friends, and the comforts of home. Our goal was to send them a message of encouragement, to let them know they are not alone—and that even strangers are thinking of them with love.
A Community Effort to Bring Light
From March 18 through April 10, we invited participants to create cards inspired by the beauty of spring. From Easter bunnies and colorful eggs to sunshine, flowers, and rainbows, each card was a burst of color and love.
Our original goal was to collect 150 handmade cards, and once again, our growing community surpassed expectations. We received an incredible 342 cards from 96 participants, including high school students, families, and adults of all ages.
Each card carried a thoughtful, handwritten message meant to uplift the children who would receive them. Some shared words of encouragement, others included jokes, drawings, or cheerful quotes—but all were filled with heart.
Delivering Joy to Two Special Hospitals
Once collected, the cards were carefully sorted and delivered to two incredible pediatric care facilities: St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital in Bayside, NY and the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center in Yonkers, NY.
The response was heartwarming. Hospital staff expressed how much the children enjoyed receiving the cards, and how meaningful it was for them to know that others were thinking of them. For many of these young patients, the simple gesture of receiving a bright, cheerful card helped lift their spirits in a way that words can hardly describe.
Why This Mission Mattered
Hospital stays can be long and difficult—especially for children. Through this mission, we hoped to remind them that they are loved, strong, and surrounded by support, even from people they’ve never met.
Our April mission showed, once again, the incredible power of kindness. A small gesture can bring a moment of happiness, hope, and connection during a tough time.
Looking Ahead
As we close our third monthly mission, we are filled with gratitude. Thank you to every person who took the time to create a card, share this initiative, or support us in spirit. Your involvement truly made a difference.
This is what Letters with Love is all about: spreading love, one letter at a time. And with your continued support, we’re just getting started.
Stay tuned for our final mission of the school year this May—and thank you for helping us make the world a little brighter.
Letters With Love partnered with Luna's Sunshine Bags during this event. After her father was diagnosed with AML leukemia, Luna, a high school student, embarked on a project to bring comfort to adults battling cancer at New York Presbyterian Hospital while also bringing awareness to leukemia. Luna's Sunshine bags contained word puzzles, fuzzy socks, jars of quotes, etc., to comfort these adult patients. To help in her efforts, Letters with Love donated 25 handwritten cards to add to her Sunshine Bags.
Letters With Love received recognition for the cards given out to the sick Children. We want to thank our volunteers as well as Barbara at the Elizabeth Seton Children's Center for making this happen!
