Valentine’s Mission: One Year Later
One year ago, Letters with Love began with a simple but powerful idea: handwritten cards can remind someone they are not forgotten. Our very first mission delivered 230 Valentine’s Day cards to seniors in assisted living — and it sparked a movement rooted in compassion, connection, and community.
This February, we returned to where it all started.
In honor of our one-year anniversary, we revisited Dowling Gardens Senior Living, the facility that welcomed our very first delivery. We also expanded our reach to The Promenade at Blue Hill, allowing even more residents to feel the love this Valentine’s Day.
What made this mission especially meaningful was not only the return, but the growth. In a shorter timeframe than most of our missions, we received an incredible 460 cards — a record for Letters with Love within a single mission and exactly double the amount from our first Valentine’s initiative. It was a powerful reflection of how far our community has come in just one year.
For many seniors in assisted living, holidays can intensify feelings of loneliness and isolation. Valentine’s Day, centered around love and connection, can be particularly difficult. Our goal has always been to remind residents that they are seen, valued, and remembered. Every handwritten note, decorated envelope, and thoughtful message carried warmth into rooms that might otherwise feel quiet.
This mission was also a milestone moment for our organization, helping us surpass 2,000 total cards delivered to date. What began as a small act of kindness has grown into something far greater than we ever imagined.
Returning to our first mission location one year later was more than symbolic — it was a reminder of why Letters with Love exists. The heart of our work remains the same: showing up for those who may feel alone and proving that even the smallest gesture can make a lasting difference.
Letters With Love started on the 25th of January, 2025. Since then, we have collected over 2,000 cards, delivered them to 27 locations, applied for and received nonprofit status, been honored by the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency and Mike Lawler from District 17 US House of Representivates as well as numerous media outlets. Thank you all for being a part of this growth and our impact.
